Between San Diego and Los Angeles Counties, Orange County stretches along the Pacific Ocean and has a population of about 3 million people. Beautiful weather, the Santa Ana Mountains, and scenic coastlines make Orange County a beautiful place to take a drive, and thousands of motorcyclists take to the road every day.
Accidents happen, but accidents are usually preventable. The causes for most motorcycle accidents are often not the fault of the motorcyclist. Rather it is the car or truck driver that doesn’t see them. Since it’s not likely we’re going to convince every driver in Orange County to stop texting while they drive, slow down, and look twice for motorcyclists (we wish we could); the only thing we can do is train ourselves to avoid these drivers. And handle situations better.
Studies across the country show over and over that training reduces accidents.
Fact: From January 1, 2017 to October 31, 2017 there were 841 motorcyclists injured and 16 killed in Orange County.
So, what’s the best kind of training? It seems reasonable that the faster a motorcycle moves, the more likely an accident will happen. While this may or may not be true, but the foundation for training at Shiny Side Up Motorcycle Training is slow speed training. Why?
Contrary to popular belief, the skills needed to properly control a motorcycle at slow speed are critical to proper control of a motorcycle at high speed. At extremely slow speeds, the the techniques must be executed correctly every time or the rider will not be able to complete the exercise. It is our sincere belief that if you are not in complete control of your motorcycle at 3 MPH, you have no business going any faster! The techniques are simple and easy to learn, but the only way to master them is to be trained and to practice.
Did You Know: Airline pilots are required to complete continuous education and training? They are also reviewed by certified instructors on a regular basis.
Shiny Side Up Motorcycle Training, LLC takes an individualized approach to each student. We look at every rider’s current level of experience and we lay out a plan. Our primary goal is to make every student safer on the road.
